After being a land developer for many years in the Washington area Mr. Tom Taro bought the property known as Brick House Farm in Ellicott City in the late 1970's. He looked forward to leaving the city behind and pursuing a lifelong dream of raising and racing Thoroughbred horses. By the late 1980's, he began looking into the possibility of bottling the spring water that was apparently abundant on the property. Once completing all the requirements Mr. Taro was able to open the doors of the bottling plant in 1992, selling to a large variety of distributors serving the Baltimore, Washington and Northern Virginia areas. Soon after Brick House Spring Water won recognition by the State of Maryland, receiving a Governor's Citation from the then Governor William Donald Schaefer, and also winning 1st place in 1994 the International Water and Tasting Competition in Berkeley Springs for the best non-carbonated water.
